India
& Nepal
2001
Well I made it home and there
is a lot to update on this page. These are some of the photos
and below are the e-mails I sent from India and Nepal.
Hello everyone
Well after a full day of flight
I made it India once again. I am feeling a lot of
jet-lag and haven't been able to do much today but sleep and
wander the streets in search
of food. Tomorrow I will book my ticket to Udaipur at the
train station and spend 17 hours
on a train. I hope I can find an overnight sleeper.
New Delhi is still a dirty place. I
had hoped they would clean it up a little from last
year but it hasn't changed. I have not found the post office
and right now it is not high
on my list of things to do. It looks like I will carry 22
World books to Udaipur with me
and ship them from there. Something I am not looking foward to
but it can't be helped at
this time.
For now I thing I will go back to my
room and just sleep or try to.

Hello Everyone
I am fine!!! There was a large
earthquake two days ago just 200 miles from Udiapur. I was
on an over night train so I didn't get to feel it. Everyone
side they could feel a little
bit of it. It was an 7.9 on the scale and over 40,000 people
are dead. I am very lucky
because it was one of my stops after here but now I will have
to travel in a diffrent
direction.
Tonight I will be going to a
wedding with some friends here in Udiapur. I went to see a
shoe maker but he is in another wedding today so I will have
to see him tomorrow. I also
started working with a tailor.
It is very hot here and I am
sure glad I am not in Cleveland where I am sure there is
more snow. The night get a little cold here in the desert but
it feels good after a long
hot day.
I will e-mail later when there
is more to tell as for now I just wanted to let everyone
know I was not part of the Earth Quake.

Hi Kids
What a beatful place this
is. I am in a small beach town of Anjuna just
outside of Goa India. The beaches are
wonderful and the waves come crashing
in. The seafood is some of the best I have ever eaten.
Yesterday was the big
market where there was thousands of people.
I have never seen so many
tourists in India but I tend to travel the road less traveled.
It is nice to
have a brake from all the Indians and to see
people from home. I have been
hanging out with a brother and sister who are Tibetan but grew
up in
Seattle. They are here doing a study in Dharamsala which was
my first stop
last year while I was in India. I have also made friends with
two girls from
Holland and to guys from Germany. Last night
we all went to a full moon
party on the beach with dancing and many people just sitting
on the beach
drinking.
Today I am going to move
into the city of Goa. I hope to find some
fabric and do a little shopping. After a few days there I will
take the
train to Bombay and then to Delhi so I can fly to Nepal. I
will do a stop in
Agra and see the Taj Mahal again.
My first week I spent in
Udaipur seeing all my friends and doing some
business. I did two shows of magic and balloons at two
different schools. The
children here love the balloons as much as
they do back home. I just with I
could do more but I could only carry so many balloons with me.
One third of
my backpack was full of balloons. I know I will do another
show in Nepal for
the school I did last year and for my
friends (Pradeepman) wife who is a
teacher. It will be nice to return to Nepal where I can speak
Nepali and to
see all of my friends some of whom I missed last year when I
was there.
I hope all is well back home in
the States. It is a little too hot for me
here but I have rented a small motorbike so
I don't have to walk in all this
heat.

Hello everyone
I have ended my stay in goa. It was a very nice place with
white sand beaches which go on forever,
you just have to look over the cows! The seafood was wonderful
but the place was full of white
tourists. This is very unlike the rest of India where there
are a million Indians to every tourist. Most
of the tourists on the beaches of Goa are older and are just
in India for a week or two. I like to make
friends with the locals and work on my hindi. With most of the
tourists english is the only way and
my German is not up to speed.
Last night was hard. I took a 16 hour bus ride on a local bus
from Goa to Bombay. I did sleep a little
here and there but it didn't add up to much. To top it off the
bus had a flat tire so we had to make a
pit stop for an hour while they did the repairs. I will rest
the night in Bombay and tomorrow night I
will take a 22 hour (I hope only 22 hours) train ride to Agra
where I will once again see the Taj
Mahal. The last time I was there was in 97 at the very end of
my year long trip. There isn't much to
do in Agra but to see the Taj so I will only spend one night
there.
I have my ticket in hand to Kathmandu. I will fly from Delhi
to Nepal on Sunday the 18th. I will land
in Nepal around 1pm but it will take a little time to clear
customs. Pradeep met me at the airport
around 2pm. I will need to take a taxi because my backpack is
too big for your motorcycle.
I have been making many friends on this trip and some of them
I will see again in Amsterdam. I am
looking foward to my visit to Nepal where I will see all of my
friends and start doing some business.
Love,
